Our impacts
At NuruSafe, we believe our role is larger than just being a packhouse. We are deeply committed to transforming the post-harvest landscape for smallholder farmers, improving food security, and building more resilient agricultural value chains in Tanzania and beyond. Our impact is shaped by both our day-to-day services and a long-term vision of sustainability, efficiency, and social prosperity.
Reducing Post-Harvest Losses
Post-harvest losses are a serious challenge for farmers in Tanzania and other parts of the world. According to recent research, losses for perishable crops in Tanzania can reach up to 40% if proper handling and storage are not in place.
We tackle this issue head-on. By offering advanced sorting, cleaning, cooling, and storage services, we significantly reduce the amount of produce that would otherwise go unsold or deteriorate. This isn’t just about saving more produce — it’s about ensuring that more value returns to the farmer and the entire community.
Driving Food Security & Nutrition
Food losses not only hurt farmers — they also threaten national food security and nutritional outcomes. According to national post-harvest data, the economic and social impacts of these losses are profound: lost income, wasted nutrients, and less food available for communities
Economic & Market Impact
The ripple effects of our work go beyond the farm. By reducing losses and improving produce quality, we help smallholder farmers tap into more profitable and stable markets. This contributes to local economic development and helps develop stronger value chains.
We also support export readiness: many certification-ready facilities are the gateway for farmers to access premium international markets, which can pay significantly higher prices
Innovation & Data-Driven Impact
We are committed to continuously improving and scaling our impact by applying evidence-based strategies. For example, predictive models for post-harvest loss reduction — such as those researched in recent academic work — help us better forecast risk and optimize resource use.
Through data, we are able to track our performance, refine our operations, and measure real improvements in food preservation and value chain efficiency
Youth and Women Employment
Horticulture and post-harvest management are particularly attractive to young people. According to reports, innovative post-harvest solutions and cold-chain infrastructure can create income opportunities for youth in Tanzania’s horticultural sector, helping reduce unemployment.
Many of the roles we create, especially in handling, grading, and quality control, are well-suited for women — providing entry points into the agribusiness sector where they can grow, specialize, and lead.
